Frequently Asked Questions

How much will I have to do?
You won't have to change your life completely. We don't expect you to move house or get new friends,  but we will support you in implementing lifestyle and eating habits that may be a change from your usual habits. In our experience, it is very much worth the effort - but we understand that healthy change is about progress, not perfection!
How much time will I need to take part?
Check your screen time on your phone right now - you already have the time for this! The 28-day course requires a few hours upfront and manageable daily commitments that will soon become part of your routine. You’ll need a few hours before you start to read the introductory content and sort out your food shopping list for week 1.

If you take the “Jump Right In” meal plan, you’ll spend about 60 minutes cooking and prepping each day. You can take the course with far less cooking if you choose. The classroom content and video modules take just 30 - 40 minutes each week, there is one or two hours of live Q&A each week. The daily mindfulness practice takes just a few minutes. This may sound like a lot - but within 28 days these daily habits and practices will have become part of your routine.
What sort of food will I be eating?
A variety of simple, unprocessed plant-based meals are on the menu. If you already enjoy a variety of fruits, veggies, beans, greens, and  whole grains on a daily basis then our “Jump Right In “ meal plan is for you. If you need to take it a little bit more gradually, then our “Step It Up” meal plan is for you. It’s possible to take part in the entire course without cooking a single meal - many of our gut health rockstars prefer to focus their journey on the gut health classroom and lifestyle, while taking time to calm the gut brain axis with Simone’s guided meditations. Every recipe has a full ingredients list and step-by-step instructions. Quantities are listed in teaspoons , tablespoons, grams (g) and milli-liters (mls). The Happy Pear are on-hand with the kitchen skills tutorials you need to make things easy. We have had great results from even the most self-proclaimed novice cooks!
I have coeliac disease or a food allergy.
Our recipes are dairy-free, lower in oil and vegan-friendly, packing the diversity of plants that will help your gut microbiome to thrive. We have gluten-free eaters covered with coeliac-friendly recipes and swaps. If you have a food allergy then please exclude the ingredients that you need to.

During the course you can flex the recipes to suit your own needs. Meat and dairy can be added in small quantities if you wish - but our focus is always on eating more plants!
I have IBD - Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
It is now widely recognised that patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) should be supported in moving to an unprocessed, plant-predominant or Mediterranean diet whenever possible. If this is new to you then you may wish to choose the “Step-it-up” meal plan which takes a more gradual approach.

People who have had extensive abdominal surgery, have strictures, or have a stoma should approach healthy dietary change gradually. You can complete the course and try some new recipes - but may also benefit from the lifestyle, classroom and mindfulness components - all designed to benefit your gut health and overall health. Always check with your IBD team or IBD dietitian if you are concerned that this course is not suitable for you
How long will I have access to the content?
One year. You can begin the course as soon as you sign up, and will have access to all of the content, the recordings of the Live Q&A sessions, plus all the resources on The Happy Pear app for one year.
